As a small business you may be thinking that an off-the-shelf logo will do and to pay £250 for a logo design is a waste of money. So we thought it might be fun to showcase a few logos that have cost just a little more than that. What do you think of them? Are they worth their money or was it just a tremendous mistake?
The symbol of love was chosen for the design in order to convey a message of love and show that the city of Belfast has left its violent history in the past. According to the City Council, the B stands for “be” as in “be welcome”, “be vibrant”, “be part of it”.
Love it or hate it, this logo caused controversy for its “sloppy” and “unprofessional” look when it was revealed in 2007. This logo was apparently aimed at the “younger generation”
To step up to their rivals Coca Cola, Pepsi famously relaunched their logo in 2008 by making their swoosh a little more “swooshy”. Considered as a failure by many industry experts, this logo shows that Pepsi will never achieve the timeless quality of their rivals over at Coca Cola
As the internet and digital TV revolution approached in 1997 the BBC decided to update their logo and brand – to the tune of over a million pounds. The previous logo with slanted boxes was causing pixelation problems on computer screens so these lines were straightened along with a font change to Gill Sans for its timeless quality.
Technically this isn’t the cost of the logo or rebrand but more importantly the cost of the VeriSign check mark that they purchased in order to add to their new logo. This authenticates the security certificates on websites, especially shopping sites. However, VeriSign’s SSL’s were more trusted than others and made the company a huge stack of cash.
